Voice commands is actively entering our lives. Assistants such as Siri or Alex have already become familiar to many, but Google does not graze the back ones and even goes further. With the voice command “Ok Google,” you can open applications and perform specific actions in your applications. This feature will be rolled out to all Google Assistant-enabled Android phones.

For example, you can tie the laces of your Nike Adapt BB basketball shoes with the command “Ok Google tighten my shoes” or “Check the news on Twitter.”

Google says voice commands will work in 30 English-language apps worldwide for now, but the list will expand. Voice control is currently available on Spotify, Snapchat, Twitter, Walmart, Discord, Etsy, MyFitnessPal, Mint, Nike Adapt, Nike Run Club, eBay, Kroger and Postmates, Wayfair, and many more.

Recall that in 2018, Google Assistant was fundamentally updated, but that made it possible not to occupy the entire screen with an assistant, but to work in parallel with applications. Users’ wishes to optimize the assistant did not end there, as they wanted to control voice commands in their applications. Now users can enjoy using their phone because now there is no need to press additional buttons and iterate over menu items manually.

It is worth noting that you can edit commands and create your own if you find the standard command inconvenient.

All of these innovations in Google Assistant are similar to Apple’s support, where Siri works with iOS apps, including the ability to open apps, complete tasks, and record your phrase.

In Google’s case, the ability to perform tasks within an application is implemented on the developer’s side by mapping user intent to specific functionality within their application. This feature, known as App Actions, allows users to open their favorite apps with a voice command.

Google says it has expanded its directory to include over 60 intents across ten verticals, including finance, ride-sharing, ordering food, fitness, social media, gaming, travel and local services, productivity, shopping, and communications.

The Google Assistant app update is just one of the Android improvements. The company is also adding screen sharing to Google Duo, extending Verified Calls spam protection to more devices.

In terms of accessibility, it introduces new hearing loss treatment tools with audio notifications and other action-block communication tools designed for people with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, aphasia, and other speech impairments.

All these updates are already available to all users. Who knows, if enough developers start using this tool, maybe one day you will control all your applications with a simple voice.
