Facebook Is Merging All Of Its Messaging Platforms Into One


In January 2019, there was a statement from Facebook that an idea combined all of the company’s messaging platforms (Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram) into one.

Well, such a desire was realized yesterday, and the deployment of the ability to connect Instagram’s direct messages to Messenger began. What does this mean? Users will be able to send messages from Instagram to Messenger and vice versa. The new function will not be available to all users simultaneously but will be implemented gradually. It’s worth noting that if you don’t want to enjoy this kind of “merge,” you can keep your Messenger and Instagram separate if you wish.

If you still decide to test the new product, you will immediately find that the chat on Instagram will become similar to Messenger. In other words, Instagram users who take advantage of the update will be able to forward messages, customize their chat flow using custom colors and aliases.

And that is not all. Many other functions will also be available to users, such as stickers for selfies, the “Watch together” option (which allows you to watch popular videos with friends), and a secret chat mode, where messages disappear by themselves after a period you set.

Facebook says that some of the features will first appear on Instagram and will soon appear on Messenger.

With such a merger, the company wants to simplify users’ lives and enable people to use only one of these platforms to connect with people on the other platform and connect with them without having to download a separate application.

Please note that messages and calls from Instagram to Instagram users will remain in the Instagram app.

In a speech by Mark Zuckerberg back in early 2019, end-to-end encryption was highlighted as one of the key benefits of bringing all Facebook messaging platforms together. (WhatsApp and Messenger already support end-to-end encryption, while Instagram does not.) The company plans to add end-to-end encryption to Instagram in the future, but no one knows when it will.

The Facebook company does not stop surprising us with updates, but it seems that this should unite different audiences into one. After all, about 50% are actively using one of the platforms. The merger should also help the business promote its services more efficiently, so there will be an opportunity to reach new audience segments. It’s too early to make predictions, but the idea seems interesting.
