The goal was simple: give shoppers an interactive way to explore products, ask questions, and make purchases in real time, all while strengthening brand loyalty and keeping customers coming back.

01 The Challenge

At the time, our Client depended on platforms like Facebook for live streams, which meant customers had to leave the stream to finish their purchases on the vendor’s website. This fragmented process disrupted the shopping experience and weakened the Client’s control over branding and customer engagement.

The vendors, selling both offline and through existing Client’s websites, were looking for a more modern and engaging solution to connect with their audience. That’s why our partners wanted to enhance the live shopping experience, offering a solution where customers could browse, interact, and purchase without leaving the livestream.

As a global brand, the Client couldn’t rely on off-the-shelf solutions due to their existing policies. They needed a custom-built platform tailored to their unique requirements – one that would address their current issues and provide a scalable foundation for further SaaS development.

The stakes were high, as the platform had to be reliable enough to support live interactions and sophisticated enough to reflect the brand’s reputation for quality and reliability.

02 The Solution

Altamira team was proactive about helping the Client bring his idea to life and offer the best possible functionality. From the offset, our development team was working hard to cover the following needs:

  • Help department stores like Takashimaya and Client brands attract new customers and reach new shopping segments.
  • Create new, interactive shopping experiences through live shopping.
  • Provide buyers with a way to shop online, see products live, ask questions, and make purchases directly from the livestream.
  • Enable sellers to showcase products in various ways, explain their benefits in live video, and answer customer questions.
  • Offer a more detailed, realistic shopping experience for buyers, simulating the feel of offline shopping.

We delivered a complex feature-rich solution for both buyers and sellers. The solution included:

  • Embedded iFrame widget for websites
  • Mobile applications for sellers (iOS & Android)
  • Admin Dashboard
  • Real-time analytics & purchase tracking

So, at the heart of the solution was an embedded iFrame widget that integrated perfectly into the Client’s shopping websites. This widget allowed customers to view live streams, engage with sellers in real time, and make purchases—all without leaving the stream.

We built mobile applications for iOS and Android, enabling sellers to broadcast live shows directly from their smartphones. The sellers could showcase products, answer customer questions on the spot, and dynamically highlight featured items during the stream.

For iOS app development, we used Swift for native development, AlamofireSDK, RxSwift, and OpenTokSDK for network requests and real-time video, and SwiftCentifuge for real-time interaction during streams.

For the Android mobile solution, we used Java/Kotlin, Retrofit for network requests, and Android Jetpack and Android Support Design for modern UI components.

Behind the scenes, a web-based admin dashboard allowed administrators to manage shops, register sellers, and oversee livestreams.

Building a platform that could handle real-time streaming with minimal latency was no small feat. Our team implemented advanced streaming protocols to ensure smooth, uninterrupted broadcasts, even under heavy traffic.

Integration with the Client’s existing eCommerce infrastructure required close collaboration with their technical team. To ensure smooth deployment, we provided detailed documentation and support, allowing for easy embedding and customisation of the solution. We also provided a JavaScript library for tracking purchases and embedding the livestream widget on third-party websites, ensuring easy integration and long-term scalability.

As a result, the platform offered a smooth experience for all users.

For the admin

The site admin can view all shops currently registered in the system, create new shops, or update shop details if needed. They can also register or remove sellers and access a complete list of all planned or past livestreams in the system.

For the sellers

After logging into the dashboard, sellers can customise their shop’s appearance, upload product inventories, and schedule live shows. Sellers can upload products for livestreams, either manually or via a CSV template for bulk uploads. Each product can be edited as needed. During the broadcast, sellers can interact with viewers, display product details, and track real-time engagement. Post-stream, they can review performance analytics and even replace recorded videos with updated versions if needed.

For the viewers

Shoppers could watch live streams directly on the client’s website, interact with sellers, like and comment on the stream, and easily add products to their cart. The picture-in-picture video feature allowed them to browse other products without leaving the stream, ensuring a continuous and engaging shopping experience.

03 The Result

Our custom platform transformed the Client’s online shopping experience. Customers can now engage with products in real time and complete purchases in a click—all from within the live stream. As a result, our Client impressively reduced cart abandonment rates and increased sales conversions.
