01 The Challenge

Our clients came to us to develop software that helps busy teams plan, collaborate, and track projects.

Previously, they managed multiple projects with hundreds of tasks inside. They tried to use different project management tools to organise the workflow and make it accessible to the team.

Nevertheless, they faced the same challenge each day — the project was too complex for one person to grasp. So, our client came up with the idea that sharing the vision is easier than describing tasks.

That’s how the idea of the Visual roadmap tool was born. It allows to easily visualise the project roadmap and share it with sales and marketing, production, customer support teams, stakeholders, and even your customers!

02 The Solution

Team collaboration

Teamwork is the key to success. So, we helped our client create a tool that helps teams communicate over the project and track their progress easily.

Set up project goals and milestones to make strategic planning smooth and realistic.

Dependencies

Users can link two or more tasks to create dependencies with logical relationships between tasks. They show the order in which tasks need to be completed.

This feature helps users to track and monitor the workflow in real-time.

All the tasks can be organised with the help of:

• Dependencies creation.
• Visually linking the dependencies and user stories.
• Assigning team members.

Communication & feedback

Users can get feedback from teammates on every step of the project. Comments can be left directly in the roadmap.

Additionally, it’s possible to turn on/off the email notifications about the new comments, new tasks assigned, etc.

Customised design

Every project is unique, and so are the roadmaps. Therefore, we added the customisation features. They allow users to highlight critical tasks, tag the most important information, and identify crucial points inside the project.

All these tasks can be completed with the help of such functions as:

• Colours
• Dates
• Layout filters
• Milestone types

Sharing

The main idea was to present ideas to the team, partners or investors, so we added the share feature. Users can send each other beautiful presentations and roadmaps that can be downloaded in PNG, JPEG, PDF, HTML, XLS, DOCS, TXT and CSV.

Integrations

Visual Roadmap Tool allows users to power up their roadmaps by integrating existing projects from various PM apps such as Slack, Jira, and Trello.

We also integrated all the Google Services that are used in everyday office work:

• Gmail
• Calendar
• Docs
• Spreadsheets
• Slides

UX and design

Visual Roadmap Tool was meant to solve managers’ problems instead of creating them. It was required to make the product look appealing and simple at the same time.

For that reason, we chose the material design, which is familiar to most Internet users, which means that new users don’t have to spend time trying to understand how to work with the tool.

We tried to make the website design intuitive and not overload it with useless features. So, we put the most important functions on the top. Our team also added bright elements so users can quickly navigate through the roadmap.

As for the background, we chose light colours that save users’ eyes and don’t distract them from work.
